Aqua Security acquires $62m in funding

Israel-based software development platform Aqua Security received $62m on Wednesday in a series C round that included M12, the corporate venturing arm of software provider Microsoft.

Investment firm Insight Partners led the round, which also featured venture capital firms Lightspeed Venture Partners and TLV Ventures, and private investor Shlomo Kramer. The round increased the company’s total funding to more than $100m.

Aqua Security has developed a cloud-based software platform that allows developers to create and produce applications in secure environments known as containers.

The company has more than 100 customers across the energy, aerospace, internet, media, travel, retail and pharmaceutical sectors, and the funding will facilitate the expansion of its platform and market presence.

Lightspeed led Aqua’s $25m series B round, which included M12 (then known as Microsoft Ventures), TLV and Shlomo Kramer, in September 2017.

Aqua had already raised $9m in a 2016 series A round led by M12, which invested alongside TLV and Shlomo Kramer. The latter two had previously supplied $4.5m in seed funding for the company.

Dror Davidoff, Aqua’s co-founder and CEO, said: “The adoption of cloud native technologies provides an opportunity for security to be redefined, addressing the chronic cybersecurity skills shortage through automation, and creating applications that are secure by design.

“With this significant investment and our focus on the needs of enterprise customers and product innovation, we can take the next step to realise our vision.”
