Paul Ark (Polapat Arkkrapridi) is set to leave SCB Digital Ventures, the venture capital vehicle he helped set up for Thailand-based financial services firm Siam Commercial Bank.
Ark has been managing director of corporate venture capital for the unit since its inception in 2016 but disclosed in a Facebook post this week that he will step down from the position at the end of the month.
During his time at SCB Digital Ventures Ark formed its investment strategy and built the team, focusing on increasing women’s representation in the domestic VC scene. He also sat on the boards of portfolio companies including 1QBit, IndoorAtlas, Pulse ID, Pagaya Investments and Ripple.
While unable to confirm his next move, Ark said he is planning to take a sabbatical to explore the following steps in his career and will remain engaged with the tech ecosystem through entities such as emerging markets VC firm Seedstars and entrepreneurial community Startup Grind Bangkok.
The announcement came after SCB unveiled plans in November 2019 to reorganise its financial technology and innovation subsidiaries which include SCB Digital Ventures.
The unit, along with analytics technology spinoff SCB Abacus, will fall under the umbrella of SCB 10X, a holding company launched this week, according to TechSauce, which cited a filing at the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
