Aspen RxHealth attracts $23m in series B

US-based online pharmacy Aspen RxHealth has secured $23m in a series B round featuring pharmaceutical firm Takeda, healthcare product supplier McKesson and health insurer Humana.

Bessemer Venture Partners led the round, which included dRx Capital, the fund set up by pharmaceutical company Novartis and mobile chipmaker Qualcomm, in addition to Flare Capital Partners, while Takeda and McKesson invested through subsidiaries Takeda Digital Ventures and McKesson Ventures.

Founded in 2018, Aspen RxHealth has developed a mobile app that matches pharmacists with patients enrolled in health plans, and more than 5,000 pharmacists are registered to the platform. It closed a $9m series A round in 2018 that was led by Flare Capital Partners with participation from an undisclosed strategic partner.

Aspen RxHealth CEO David Medvedeff said: “This capital will help us deliver on our promise to create a true marketplace for pharmacists, rapidly scale our business at a time when pharmacy is ripe for disruption, and aggressively pursue newer, broader markets such as specialty pharmacy support and medication reconciliation.”
