Atheer Labs, a US-based augmented reality glasses developer backed by supply chain services provider Flex, has raised $12.3m from 23 investors, according to a regulatory filing.
Founded in 2011, Atheer has created a gesture-controlled augmented reality platform for smart glasses that allows users to view relevant information and collaborate with remote colleagues through video calling while completing work tasks.
The company had previously raised $1.5m in seed funding in January 2014 from angel investors Bobby Yazdani and Farzad Naimi, followed by an undisclosed amount from Lab IX, Flex’s hardware accelerator, in July the same year.
Lab IX’s investment was followed by a December 2015 series B round in which Atheer secured $13.8m from investment groups Fang Group and Shanda, Signatures Capital, Streamlined Ventures, FundersClub and Rona Holdings.
A regulatory filing shows Atheer closed $9m of equity financing in August 2015, though as the funding was initiated on the same date as the December round and never formally announced, the $9m could have simply been rolled into the series B.
