UMC Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor foundry UMC, led a $7m series A round for AtScale, a US-based developer of business intelligence technology for big data software Hadoop, on Tuesday.
The round also featured venture capital firms AME Ventures, Storm Ventures and XSeed Capital, the latter of which co-led AtScale’s $2m seed round in 2013.
AtScale’s software acts as an interface for Hadoop, enabling enterprise customers to better access business data. It integrates with tools such as Microsoft Excel, Tableau Software and Qliktech to accelerate data queries.
The company’s partners include software producer Microsoft and big data technology companies such as Tableau, Cloudera and Hortonworks.
