Attune links Qualcomm with Norwest for $10m

India-based hospital management software provider Attune Technologies has secured $10m in a round led by Qualcomm Ventures India, a local subsidiary of mobile semiconductor technology producer Qualcomm, the Economic Times reported today.

The round also included venture capital firm Norwest Venture Partners and followed $6m of series A funding provided by Norwest in 2012, and $1m of seed funding from Singaporean backers from 2010 to 2012.

Attune produces software that links medical equipment like laboratory analysers and intensive care machines to information from diagnostic labs, clinics and hospitals. It is currently used in some 200 hospitals, incorporating around 10,000 connected devices.

Arvind Kumar, chief executive of Attune, said: “With this round of funding, we want to reach 25,000 labs and hospitals in the next three years.”

Qualcomm made the investment from the $150m Indian fund it announced last month, and Karthee Madasamy, vice-president of Qualcomm Ventures India, stated the fund will seek to invest in robotics, drones, mobile platforms, healthcare, education and retail technology.

“Given the opportunity in India, we will do more,” Madasamy said. “We will lead more rounds, write more cheques.”
