Augmedix, a US-based developer of healthcare technology using the Google Glass headset, completed a $17 funding round on Monday that included contributions from five healthcare systems.
Sutter Health, Dignity Health, Catholic Health Initiatives, TriHealth and an undisclosed fifth care system were joined by Redmile Group, which led the round, Emergence Capital and DCM Ventures.
Augmedix has built a Google Glass-based system that enables physicians to record and chart patients’ symptoms, prescriptions and laboratory test orders verbally in real time rather than by filling in traditional charts.
The funding, which took Augmedix’s overall funding to $40m, will be used to scale its technology to health systems and private clinics across the US. Emergence and DCM provided $7m of seed funding for the company before supplying $16m in series A capital in January 2015.
Albert Chan, chief of digital patient experience for Sutter Health, said: “As we strive to create the high-quality, high-value healthcare experience our patients expect from Sutter Health, new technology tools and services allow us to innovate in ways that deliver a more efficient, affordable and personalised level of care.
“Wearable technology holds tremendous promise, especially for enhancing the office visit experience. We are committed to partnering with our patients, and value how our growing network of digital health innovators helps strengthen those patient-doctor relationships in new ways.”
