US-based healthcare software developer Aventura raised $14m yesterday in a series C round co-led by Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, a corporate venturing subsidiary of drugs company Merck.
Medical device investment firm Safeguard Scientifics co-led the round with Merck. MemorialCare Innovation Fund, the investment vehicle of healthcare provider MemorialCare Health System, Excel Venture Management, and HLM Venture Partners also participated.
Aventura’s software, dubbed ‘awareness computing’, can identify doctors, their location within the hospital, which device they are using and which patient they are treating, tying the information into electronic health records and making care collaboration easier
The company previously secured $4.3m in series B funding in 2013 from MemorialCare, Clarion Direct Investment, Excel and HLM.
In 2011, Aventura received $13m in a series A round backed by Siemens Venture Capital, the corporate venturing arm of engineering conglomerate Siemens, and co-led by HLM and Excel.
The series C funding will support sales and marketing efforts, business development, customer support and product development.
