Healthcare provider UnityPoint Health led a $16m series A round for US-based healthcare access software developer B.well Connected Health on Wednesday through its UnityPoint Health Ventures unit.
The round also featured community health system ThedaCare and Well Ventures, a corporate venture capital vehicle for pharmacy operator Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA).
B.well has built a cloud-based platform that combines health data, advice and care partners in a single place, connecting disparate parts of healthcare provision and helping users to manage their health in a more precise manner.
The company said it had previously raised $11.5m in seed funding, $8.2m of which was convertible note financing that closed in August 2018, according to regulatory filings. It has not revealed details of its earlier investors.
Austin Duke, a senior venture associate at UnityPoint Health Ventures, is joining B.well’s board of directors along with ThedaCare’s president and chief executive, Imran Andrabi, and Giovanni Monti and Li Zhong from WBA.
Andrabi said: “Aligned with our mission of improving the health of our community, our partnership with B.well will empower patients by putting their health information at their fingertips and providing peace of mind.
“On this journey to population health, we will take our expertise outside of our walls and provide people with tools to live their best life.”
