Dell Technologies Capital and Intel Capital, subsidiaries of computing technology producer Dell and chipmaker Intel, have co-led a $14m series A round for US-based speech technology developer BabbleLabs.
The corporates were joined by unnamed new investors as well as all the participants from the company’s $4m seed round in January 2018. Cognite Ventures led that round, which included angel investors Jerry Yang, John Hennessy, Harvey Jones, James Hogan and Kurt Keutzer.
Formerly known as BabbLabs, BabbleLabs provides speech processing technology that is used to improve the quality and specificity of speech functions on audio and video apps. It will put the funding into business development and the enhancement of its technology for use in noisy spaces.
Gregg Adkin, managing director of Dell Technologies Capital, has taken a seat on BabbleLabs’ board of directors together with Vijay Reddy, an investor at Intel Capital.
Adkin said: “Speech is fast becoming a primary interface for the information universe and speech-centric processing will touch every class of end application and computing infrastructure. We believe the BabbleLabs leadership team has the talent and vision to make a significant impact on this rapidly growing market.”
