US-based connected-device management software provider Balena has completed a $14.4m series B round that included GE Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of industrial and power product manufacturer General Electric.
OpenView Venture Partners led the round, investing alongside fellow venture capital firms Threshold Ventures and Aspect Ventures.
Founded in 2013 and formerly known as Resin.io, Balena has developed a suite of tools that help customers build and deploy applications for internet-of-things (IoT) devices.
IoT technology producer Soracom led a $5m round for Balena in June 2018 that came two years after the company raised $9m in a series B round that included GE Ventures, communications technology provider Ericsson, Aspect Ventures and DFJ, from which Threshold spun out.
Balena had already secured $3m in a 2015 series A round led by DFJ and backed by The OpenFund and angel investors Gil Dibner and Panos Papadopoulos.
Jasmine Gilbert, growth lead at Balena, said: “We will use the new funding to help expand our capabilities and continue building products that make the connected world accessible for all, our aim is to be the default choice for developers building IoT projects.”
