Barclays comes back to Cloud9 in $19m round

Financial services firm Barclays has led a $14m series B round for US-based financial communications platform developer Cloud9 Technologies that included investment banking firm JPMorgan and financial technology provider NEX Group.

Cloud9 has built a cloud-based voice communication platform for financial traders that is used by both JP Morgan and Barclays. The funding will support the strengthening of the system as well as its international distribution.

Barclays and JP Morgan joined NEX, then still known as Icap, to provide an undisclosed amount of seed capital for Cloud9 in 2016. All three returned for a $30m series A round later that year that included Point72 Ventures and assorted private investors.

Kester Keating, Barclays’ head of US strategic investments, said: “For the last few years, Cloud9 has proven its commitment to fostering long-overdue innovation in the trader voice space.

“We were an early investor and believer in Cloud9, and we are proud to support its continued growth and excited by the possibilities its technology can create.”
