BASF adds flavour with Isobionics acquisition

Health and nutrition product maker Royal DSM has exited Netherlands-based artificial ingredients and flavour developer Isobionics through an acquisition of undisclosed size by chemicals producer BASF.

Isobionics uses its technology platform to create flavour and fragrance compounds in areas like citrus oil, valencene, nootkatone, sandalwood oil and patchouli oil.

DSM’s corporate venturing subsidiary, DSM Venturing, invested an undisclosed amount in Isobionics in 2014 as part of a worldwide distribution agreement with its parent company.

Toine Janssen, founder and chief executive of Isobionics, said: “BASF is known for its high-quality standards, traceability and excellent regulatory know-how.

“By combining our biotech-based product portfolio and strong development pipeline with BASF’s expertise and its global market reach, we can provide the natural aroma ingredients market with even more innovations – and boost our growth.”
