BASF VC eyes mainland China

Germany-based chemicals maker BASF’s corporate venturing unit is reportedly considering opening an office on the Chinese mainland in Beijing or Shanghai.

The head of BASF Venture Capital, Dirk Nachtigal is now going to China twice a year and he has identified universities there as "early stage, high-potential opportunities", Nachtigal said in an interview with news provider Bloomberg on Friday. The fund recently made its first investment in a Chinese fund, Nachtigal added.

The firm currently invests in Asia through its Hong Kong office. It has also opened an office in Boston this year, Bloomberg added.
