Battleface charges to $12m series A

Battleface, a US-based travel insurance policy provider backed by reinsurance firm Greenlight Re, secured $12m in series A funding from venture capital firm Drive Capital yesterday.

Founded in 2017, Battleface offers insurance products tailored to travellers headed on unorthodox journeys, targeting not just holidaymakers but also people working from overseas and humanitarian aid workers.

The policies can be tailored to cover emergency medical treatment and 24/7 claims assistance in isolated locations.

The funding will help Battleface target growth, both through business-to-business partnerships with consumer-facing insurers and by marketing its products directly to consumers through its website.

The company also plans to relocate its headquarters to a new facility in the state of Ohio. It has revealed that Greenlight Re Innovations, a subsidiary of Greenlight Re, had provided it with seed capital together with VC firm Fintech Ventures Fund at an unspecified date.
