Bazaarvoice promotes CIO to CEO

Bazaarvoice, a Nasdaq-listed social marketing software company, has promoted its chief innovation officer (CIO) to chief executive.

Stephen Collins (pictured) steps up as executive president while the incumbent, Brett Hurt, moves to be vice-chairman and joins venture capital firm Austin Ventures.

Collins will also remain as chief financial officer (CFO) as Bazaarvoice looks for his successor.

He has been CFO since September 2010 and CIO since January this year. Collins was previously executive president of Juris, CFO and chief information officer of DoubleClick.

Bazaarvoice saw a fall in its share price after its founder, Hurt, said he would step down and the company also bought peer Longboard Media for up to $44m. Longboard had raised $6m in September last year from venture capital firm Level Equity.

Separately, Apelon, a provider of data interoperability services, has hired Stuart Nelson as its CIO.
