Ambicare Health, a UK-based provider of plasters for cancer treatment, has closed a £1.7m ($2.6m) series B round from a consortium including the publisher of the Beano comic magazine.
The money will develop Ambulight PDT, the world’s first light-emitting sticking plaster for the treatment of skin cancer.
Longbow Capital, a UK-based venture capital firm, led the B round with support from state development investment fund Scottish Venture Fund, private individuals introduced by angel network Beer & Partners and publisher DC Thomson.
Gary Conroy has joined Ambicare, formerly known as Lumicure, as sales and marketing director after his previous role as head of Aesthetic Dermatology UK and Ireland at Europe-based drugs company Sanofi-Aventis.
As Lumicure, the company closed its £2.5m series A round in January 2008 from Longbow and Scottish Venture Fund.
This was the company’s first round of funding after initial product development support from Scottish Enterprise Fife.
