Benesse quizzes Quipper

Benesse, a Japan-based education and publishing firm, has joined a consortium investing $3.6m in Quipper, a UK-based electronic learning start-up.

Venture capital firms Globis and Atomico made up the rest of the series A round consortium for Quipper, which was founded by Masayuki Watanabe, a co-founder of Japanese mobile social gaming company DeNA. Atomico provided the undisclosed seed funding last year.

The portfolio company also said its users have answered questions on more than 2,000 topics over 85 million times since it launched in October.
