Bertha leaves 7-Eleven for Liquid Death

Marisa Bertha, head of US retailer 7-Eleven’s corporate venture capital unit, 7-Ventures, has left to join water bottler Liquid Death.

Bertha had spent nearly nine years at 7-Eleven, being promoted to vice-president of growth and in charge of 7-Ventures in July last year with Monideepa Chakravorty as growth manager at the unit.

She was a board observer on three of 7-Ventures’ portfolio companies. Deals since she took over last year included Adrenaline Shoc, which raised $29m in its series B round last month, Serve Robotics, which raised $13m in its seed round, and Super Coffee, which raised $106m in its C round last summer.

She had also been an adviser to AF Acquisition Corporation, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) targeting the consumer health and wellness sector.

She said her new role as senior vice-president of strategy for Liquid Death Mountain Water would see her “solely focused on growth and scaling the brand” rather than setting up a new CVC unit.
