Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ personal investment firm, Bezos Expeditions, has led a $5m round of funding into US-based news provider Business Insider, which has been backed by media-focused merchant bank Allen & Company.
There was also involvement from existing investors, venture capital firms Institutional Venture Partners and RRE Ventures.
The company has raised a total of $13.6m in funding which includes $900,000 in seed funding in 2008, $2.7m in a series C round in 2009 and $3m in a D round of financing in 2010. Investors include RRE Ventures, Kohlberg Ventures, Pilot Group, Institutional Venture Partners and individual angels.
