Binance helps invest $12m to grow Republic

Binance Labs, the incubator and VC subsidiary of crypto exchange operator Binance, has co-led a $12m round for US-based public investment platform operator Republic, CCN has reported.

The round was co-led by NGC ECO Fund, a subsidiary of blockchain project NEO foundation, and included ZK Capital, Oyster Ventures, FBG Capital, Hazoor Capital, East Chain and ZhenFund.

Republic runs an online platform that enables users to access crowdfunded investments in startups and initial coin offerings by buying presale tokens.

Several of its co-founders previously worked at another investment platform, AngelList, but Republic is chiefly targeting mission-driven startups, including those founded by people in traditionally underfunded demographics.

The company had previously received an undisclosed amount of seed funding in 2017 from AngelList, NextGen Venture Partners, Oyster Ventures, RenGen and Company, the innovation hub previously known as Grand Central Tech.
