Black & Veatch bolsters climate accelerator

US-based construction firm Black & Veatch began accepting submissions on Wednesday for a third annual challenge dubbed IgniteX Climate Tech Accelerator, part of its Growth Accelerator scheme.

External entrepreneurs working on decarbonisation and sustainable technology have until November 3 to present their projects. Selected members will be able to participate in the 12-week virtual programme and each potentially receive up to $50,000 in funding.

Formed in 2019, IgniteX Accelerator helps startups access Black & Veatch’s resources and technology through mentoring and funding initiatives. IgniteX Climate Tech Accelerator will concentrate on carbon capture, circular economy and net-zero emission technologies.

Ryan Pletka, vice-president of innovation and strategy at Black & Veatch, said: “At Black & Veatch, we are committed to bolstering climate innovations that will make a difference at this pivotal moment by sharing our company’s vast resources and intellectual capital with innovators at the forefront of climate technology.”

Black & Veatch’s previous IgniteX Challenge initiatives were the inaugural CleanTech Accelerator in 2019 and Covid Response Accelerator, which took place the following year. They have provided $1m in grants, investments and in-kind contributions altogether and backed 25 startups.
