US-based video-as-a-service developer mDialog closed a $5m round of series A funding on Wednesday led by corporate-backed venture capital fund BlackBerry Partners Fund.
The lead product for mDialog is its Smart Stream platform for mobile devices, which allows broadcasters and operators to insert commercials into online video streaming, and then track the results. The equity will be invested in expanding mDialog’s services across a range of mobile devices.
John Albright, co-managing partner at BlackBerry Partners Fund, said: "The proliferation of tablets and smartphones, as well as the continued adoption of over-the-top boxes and cord-cutting, has changed the game for television. Consumers are no longer tied to one device and their programming will follow them everywhere. Operators, programmers and video publishers all recognize the value a company like mDialog delivers in ushering in this next generation."
