Blue Danube flows to $16m series B

US-based mobile wireless access technology developer Blue Danube Systems closed a $16m series B round today that included a strategic investment from telecommunications firm AT&T.

Venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, which took part as an existing investor, and private equity firm Northgate Capital also participated in the round, which boosted Blue Danube’s total equity funding to $23.7m.

Blue Danube is developing technology that could help the distribution of video apps and interconnected devices by making more efficient use of the existing wireless spectrum.

The series B cash will accelerate the deployment of a radio system based on the company’s integrated circuits and software that it claims can increase the average spectrum cell capacity for mobile devices tenfold.

Mark Pinto, chief executive of Blue Danube, said: “We have made remarkable progress in delivering first working systems and validating the disruptive potential of our technology.

“With this level of support from investors, we are confident we will deliver commercial products that provide a 5G experience on today’s 4G networks.”
