Brainbees Solutions, the India-based owner of ecommerce sites FirstCry.com and GoodLife.com, secured $14m yesterday in a series B round led by IDG Ventures India, the regional venture capital subsidiary of technology, media and research corporation the International Data Group.
IDG was joined by private equity firm SAIF Partners, previously the backer for Brainbees’ $4m series A round in May.
Founded in 2010, Brainbees’ online properties consist of India’s most financially successful babycare and beauty commerce sites. The funds from the latest round will be used to extend product range on the sites, increase the company’s base of warehouses and expand its marketing efforts.
Manik Arora, managing director of IDG Ventures India, will join the Brainbees board of directors in conjunction with the financing.
Arora said: "IDG is delighted to invest in Brainbees Solutions, the number one online company in both the baby and beauty products market…as early investors in Babycenter.com, the first global success story in this segment, IDG Ventures looks forward to partnering with Brainbees to rapidly extend the company’s leadership position."
