Medical technology manufacturer Brainlab has purchased portfolio company Medineering, a Germany-based developer of assistive systems for surgery, for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 2014, Medineering has created a robotic arm that attaches to operating tables to assist surgeons with procedures by freeing both their hands. It has also developed a robotic endoscope that enables surgeons to see inside the body on which they are operating.
Brainlab led a series A round of undisclosed size for the company in January 2017, forming a strategic partnership with it in the process.
Medineering had already raised an undisclosed amount in a 2014 seed round backed by High-Tech Gruenderfonds, Bayern Kapital, Born2Grow and a consortium of business angels.
Stephan Nowatschin, Medineering’s co-founder and CEO, said: “Becoming part of Brainlab means scalability for our technology and improved market access. Combining our open platform with the software ecosystem from Brainlab will enable more efficient development of very competitive clinical solutions.”
