Branch Metrics swoops on ClassOwl

Educational products and services provider Follett has exited US-based classroom communication app developer ClassOwl after it was acquired by app analytics company Branch Metrics for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2013, ClassOwl’s app enables teachers to send information and assignments to students. Branch Metrics said it acquired the startup as part of a quest to “educate mobile app developers around the world about organic app growth.”

ClassOwl graduated from educational publisher Pearson’s Pearson Catalyst accelerator in 2013, securing $10,000 in the process.

The company subsequently raised $850,000 in seed funding in July 2014 from investors including Follett Knowledge Fund, the $50m fund formed by Follett in 2013, as well as the Stanford University-backed Stanford StartX Fund, and Dorm Room Fund.

Sam Purtill, co-founder and CEO of ClassOwl, said: “We are tremendously grateful to our investors, advisors, family and friends for everything they have done to support us throughout this incredible journey and we cannot wait to show them what we can do with Branch.”
