Switzerland-based bitcoin wallet developer Breadwallet has received $7m in funding from investors including online information provider OKWave and Saison Ventures, the strategic investment arm of payment services provider Credit Saison.
The corporates were joined by DAS Capital, East Ventures, Globe Advisors, Liberty City Ventures and Maffin as well as undisclosed family offices, venture capital funds and individual investors.
Founded in 2015, Breadwallet has created a secure bitcoin storage platform for the iOS mobile operating system. It closed the round at the same time as it established its headquarters in Switzerland.
Adam Traidman, chief executive of Breadwallet, said: “Switzerland has emerged as a hotbed of digital currency startup activity, and we were attracted by its leadership in conservative financial legislation.
“Its strong reputation for financial privacy for consumers is the ideal fit for our charter to empower individuals with the benefits of bitcoin.”
