BuildZoom builds $10.6m series A consortium

BuildZoom, the US-based operator of a marketplace for remodelling contractors that is backed by internet holding company Digital Garage, secured $10.6m in series A funding on Wednesday.

The round was led by corporate-backed venture capital firm Formation 8, while accelerator Y Combinator and Founders Fund also participated. The size of Y Combinator’s commitment was not disclosed but BuildZoom revealed it constitutes one of the accelerator’s largest to date.

BuildZoom has built a platform thorugh which homeowners can find and hire licensed contractors to remodel their homes. The company’s database includes more than 100 million projects completed during the past decade.

The funding will support the recruitment of additional engineering and data science staff.

Founded in 2013, the company graduated from Y Combinator later that same year and secured an $18,000 investment.

Digital Garage, through its DG Incubator unit, took part in a $1.4m seed round for BuildZoom in 2013 that was led by Formation 8 and which also featured Hydrazine Capital, DV Playground, Goldcrest Investment, Netprice Partners and a range of angel investors.

Formation 8 returned to lead the company’s $2.15m seed round in October 2014, investing in conjjunctuin with Streamline Ventures and Goldcrest Investments.
