Cavendish Kinetics radios for $36m

Cavendish Kinetics, the US-based radio components manufacturer backed by wireless technology manufacturer Qualcomm, closed a $36m funding round yesterday, raised from unnamed investors.

Cavendish Kinetics produces radio frequency antenna tuners for devices such as smartphones and wearables.

The funding will be used to develop the next generation of its technology, to keep up with demand as the industry moves towards 4G and 5G mobile phone networks. Cavendish expects to ship the first sample units of that technology by 2016.

Qualcomm Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Qualcomm, participated in a $7m round in November 2014 co-led by Tallwood Venture Capital and Wellington Partners, and backed by additional, unnamed existing investors

Qualcomm Ventures, Tallwood and Wellington invested $10m in Cavendish in 2011, after Tallwood, Wellington, Celtic House Partners, Clarium Holdings, Torteval Investments and an undisclosed private investor provided $15.5m for the company in 2006.

Celtic House also led an undisclosed earlier round for Cavendish, which also featured Clarium and Torteval.
