Cenx orchestrates $12.5m series D

Cenx, a US-based developer of software-defined networking technology, closed a $12.5m series D round yesterday featuring virtualisation software provider VMWare, communication technology producer Ericsson and telecommunications company Verizon.

Verizon invested through its corporate venturing unit, Verizon Ventures. BDC Capital, Mistral Venture Partners, Highland Capital Partners, Mesirow Financial Private Equity, DCM Ventures and Cross Creek Advisors also contributed funds to the round.

Cenx’s Lifecycle Service Orchestration technology uses big data analytics to help companies manage a combination of virtual and physical networks. The company will use the funding to support market and portfolio expansion.

Ericsson, Verizon, Highland, Mesiron, DCM and Cross Creek provided an undisclosed amount of series C funding for Cenx in February this year.

Ericsson had previously added an undisclosed sum to a $9.5m series B round backed by Verizon, Mesirow, DCM, Highland and Wasatch that closed in 2012. DCM and Highland co-led a series A round in 2009, the size of which also remains undisclosed.
