Chief adds $22m to its coffers

Chief, a US-based senior women leadership network operator backed by telecommunications group Verizon, today received $22m in a series A round co-led by General Catalyst and Inspired Capital.

Ken Chenault, chairman and managing director at General Catalyst, and Alexa von Tobel, founder and managing partner of Inspired Capital, have both joined the company’s board of directors in conjunction with the funding.

Chief operators a private network that is intended to support the careers of senior female executives through monthly events, workshops and sessions on team leadership, media training and advice for securing board seats.

The network currently consists of more than 700 senior female executives in New York, from more than 500 companies, including social networking platform Instagram, internet company Google, pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson and payments processor Mastercard.

Chief will look to expand into additional martkets following the funding round. It has raised $25m in total funding following the round, having previously secured $3m seed funding in October 2018 backed by BBG Ventures, a female entrepreneurship-focused venture capital unit funded by Verizon.

Primary Venture Partners, Flybridge Capital Partners, Accel, BoxGroup, Able Partners, Silas Capital and XFactor Ventures also took part in the seed round.
