Alcoholic drinks producer Chivas Regal awarded a total of $750,000 to five startups through its The Venture startup competition.
Chile-based Algramo, which operates a range of dispensers for bulk consumer goods, received the most money, securing $300,000. Uruguay-based livestock-tracking technology developer Chipsafer and Japan-based irrigation sensor producer SenSprout got $150,000 each.
The other two startups in the competition were Discelar, a Colombia-based company that uses waste materials as a construction alternative to wood, and Lumkani Fire, the South Africa-based developer of a fire detection system, which were awarded $75,000 each.
