Cirtas Systems, a maker of online data storage services backed by online retailer Amazon, has hired Gary Messiana as its chief executive (CEO) and raised $22.5m for its series B round just four months after closing its first funding round.
Messiana previously was CEO at Netli and Diligent Software and his arrival sees Cirtas co-founder Dan Decasper continue as chief technology officer.
Venture capital firms Shasta Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners co-led the round as new investors, with peers New Enterprise Associates and Lightspeed Venture Partners reinvesting alongside Amazon.
Cirtas launched its Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller in September. Bluejet is integrated with cloud storage providers Amazon S3, Iron Mountain, EMC Atmos and AT&T Synaptic Storage as a Service to provide medium to large enterprises with a storage solution for primary tier two and three data, as well as the backup and recovery of primary data stored on local storage arrays.
Cirtas’s $10m A round closed in September after two years in stealth mode.
