Cirtas Systems, a US-based maker of online data storage services, has raised $10m in its series A round from a venture consortium including ecommerce retailer Amazon.
The consortium also included venture capital firms New Enterprise Associates and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
The investment came along with Cirtas’ emergence after two years in stealth mode with the launch of its Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller for medium to large enterprises.
Jeff Blackburn, senior vice president of corporate development at Amazon, said: "The cloud service model gives businesses more options and better control over how they purchase data storage.
"The enterprise is an important market segment for the Amazon S3 cloud storage platform. We expect Cirtas to have a positive, lasting impact on our ability to serve our joint customers in this market segment."
