Cisco streams into Apalya Technologies

Cisco, a US-listed networking technology provider, has led a $10m series C round in Apalya Technologies, an India-based mobile video streaming company.

The local corporate venturing units of US-based publisher International Data Group, IDG Ventures India, and of the telecoms company Qualcomm, Qualcomm Ventures, participated in the round alongside venture capital firm IndoUS Venture Partners. Apalya’s total fundraising is now more than $20m.

Apalya raised $3m in a series A round in 2009 from Qualcomm Ventures and IDG Ventures India, followed by a $7.5m series B in 2011. In 2008, it attracted $450,000 in seed funding from Mumbai Angels.

The company, which provides mobile TV content for corporates, has deals with Indian telecommunications giants Reliance and Tata Teleservices to supply them with content for the launch of their 3G mobile services, as well as partnerships with media companies, including Disney and the Discovery Channel.
