US-based personalised mapping platform Citymaps yesterday received $6m in series A funding from Finland-based communications technology producer Nokia’s corporate venturing arm, Nokia Growth Partners.
The round was led by investment firms Coatue Management and Acadia Woods. Paul Asel, managing partner at Nokia Growth Partners, will join Citymaps’ board of directors in conjunction with the funding.
Founded in 2010, Citymaps covers 80 million points of interest worldwide across 750 categories, and provides users from more than 100 countries a personalised map of places connected to their life and preferences.
Citymaps has raised $11m in equity to date, including a $1.5m seed round in August 2013 backed by individual investor Steve Papa and venture capital firm A-Grade Investments, as well as $3.5m from unnamed angel investors in 2012.
The funding was secured as Citymaps introduced a ‘collaborative maps’ feature for its app, allowing users to create collections of places in tandem based on shared interests.
