Clara Labs, the US-based creator of a virtual assistant that can schedule meetings, raised $7m on Wednesday in a series A round featuring communication platform developer Slack.
The round was led by Basis Set Ventures, a $136m artificial intelligence (AI) venture capital fund that launched the same day. It VC firms included Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital, while Slack Fund participated through its corporate venturing unit, Slack Fund.
Clara Labs has built an AI tool that can be added to any email in order to automate the arrangement of meetings. It can follow up on scheduled events, give reminders and reschedule on behalf of users.
The company has not revealed details of its earlier funding but Sequoia and First Round both took part in the series A as existing investors. CEO Maran Nelson told TechCrunch it plans to spend the capital on growing its sales and marketing teams as it prepares to add features to its product.
