Comcast goes for Spree with Padopolis

Padopolis, the developer of US-based mobile shopping application (app) Catalog Spree, secured $6.1m yesterday in a series A round led by Comcast Ventures, the corporate venturing unit belonging to telecommunications, media and internet conglomerate Comcast.

Comcast Ventures was joined by Blackberry Partners Fund (BPF), the venture capital (VC) firm affiliated with telecommunications company Research in Motion, and VC firm El Dorado Ventures.

BPF and El Dorado previously co-financed US-based Padopolis’ seed round, which raised $1.3m just prior to Catalog Spree’s launch in April.

Catalog Spree attempts to bridge the gap between shopping and socialising, allowing users to personalise their buying through more than 100 company retail catalogues with the option of sharing and subscribing to their favourites. Currently the most used catalogue shopping app in Apple’s App Store, the financing will fund further innovation to Catalog Spree’s tablet-based service.

Michael Yang, managing director at Comcast Ventures said: "Catalog Spree is changing the way people engage with retail brands – and the way brands interact with their customers. The company excels at delivering an interactive user experience that defines the future of mobile shopping."
