US-based beauty e-commerce company Birchbox has closed a $60m series B round featuring Comcast Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of media and communications company Comcast.
The round was led by Viking Global Investors and also included First Round Capital, Accel Partners, Aspect Partners, Glynn Capital, Sam Lessin, Consigliere Brand Capital, Slow Ventures, Red Swan Ventures and TriplePoint Venture Growth BDC Corp.
Birchbox previously raised $10.5m in an Accel-led series A round in 2011, and $1.4m from a 2010 seed round. The series B round marks Comcast’s entry into the business as an investor.
Birchbox operates an online service that sends subscribers a box of cosmetics samples each month and it claims to now have more than 800,000 members. It will use the latest investment to fuel its growth and expansion, having acquired competitor JolieBox for an undisclosed sum in 2012.
