Flipboard, a US-based social news browsing application for Apple’s iPad tablet, has reportedly raised $50m at a $200m valuation from a consortium including cable company Comcast’s corporate venturing unit.
Alongside Comcast Interactive Capital in the series B round were venture capital firms Insight Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Index Ventures, and angel investors Chernin Group, Ron Conway, Jack Dorsey, Ashton Kutcher and Dustin Moskovitz, according to news provider All Things D. Kleiner Perkins last year raised a fund with corporate venturing investors specifically to invest in Apple’s products.
Founded in January 2010, Flipboard previously raised $10.5m and it said it has a deal with broadcaster Oprah Winfrey to present its first branded section for a partner on Flipboard’s front page.
