Canada-based virtual reality entertainment provider Felix & Paul Studios has completed a $6.8m series A round led by Comcast Ventures, mass media group Comcast’s corporate venturing arm.
Fund manager Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec also took part in the round, as did arts and culture support organisation Phi Group and LDV Partners, a company builder backed by media firm Shanghai Media Group.
Felix & Paul develops original cinematic VR content as well as filmic content linked to entertainment franchises like Jurassic World and Cirque du Soleil or celebrities such as ex-president Bill Clinton and basketball player LeBron James.
Stéphane Rituit, co-founder and CEO of Felix & Paul Studios, said: “This round of funding, led by the venture arm of one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the world, not only speaks to the power of our model but also points to a massive need for high quality VR content across the media landscape.
“We are excited to use this new capital to accelerate our goal of building a global VR studio – known for producing the highest calibre of immersive and engaging VR experiences for everyone to enjoy.”
Michael Yang, Comcast Ventures’ managing director, will join the board of Felix & Paul Studios in conjunction with the round, which will support the expansion of its team, the development of its VR cameras and software, and the strengthening of its product distribution.
