Roland Nunheim is the new managing director at BASF Venture Capital, the corporate venture arm of Germany-based chemicals manufacturing corporation BASF.

After serving nine years as the head of financing subsidiaries and joint ventures, Nunheim has been appointed as the CVC’s new head. He takes over from interim managing director Markus Bold, who stepped into the role following the departure of Markus Solibieda in November 2023.

Nunheim has been a part of BASF for over 25 years. He started as a senior specialist in asset management and held other positions including senior specialist in internal audit and head of asset management. Nunheim headed BASF’s pension funds and introduced private equity and hedge fund programmes for BASF pension funds.

BASF Venture Capital was founded in 2021. It invests in startups focusing on decarbonisation, AI, agtech and chemical technology sectors with 49 companies in its portfolio including LanzaTech, DePoly and ph7 Technologies.
