Beth Comstock is to take charge of GE Lighting, expanding her duties at industrial conglomerate General Electric where she runs its corporate venturing subsidiary, GE Ventures.
The new assignment will involve Comstock, who also oversees marketing and ccommunication at GE, taking charge of a unit that generates $3bn in annual revenue.
Comstock told Fortune that recent technological developments mean lighting is set to become a service business, and her appointment will herald greater integration between GE’s lighting operations and the start-up companies it funds through GE Ventures.
As part of the reshuffle, Maryrose Sylvester will continue as president and chief executive of GE Lighting, but will report to Comstock.
