US-based digital content management platform Contentful secured $33.5m yesterday in a series D round backed by Salesforce Ventures, the strategic investment arm of enterprise software producer Salesforce.
Venture capital firm Sapphire Venture led the round, which included participation from Omers Ventures and existing investors General Catalyst, Benchmark, Balderton Capital and Hercules Capital.
Founded in 2013, Contentful has created a cloud-based software product that enables web developers and editors to work together in order to create digital content and build products such as websites, apps or digital devices.
The company plans to use the capital to form more strategic partnerships, create new tools covering areas such as optimisation and personalisation, and to invest in its Solutions Partner Program, which helps digital agencies modernise their technology.
The latest round comes in the wake of a $28m series C round in December 2017 that was led by General Catalyst with participation from Benchmark, Balderton and Point Nine.
Benchmark led a $13m series C round for Contentful in May 2016 that included Trinity Ventures, Balderton and Point Nine, the latter two having also backed the company’s $3m series A in 2013 after providing $800,000 in seed financing the year before.
