Core pays for GoalSpring Financial’s expansion

Core Innovation Capital, a US-based venture capital firm to help Americans gain banking services and backed by Goldman Sachs, has made its first deal since the launch of a $30m fund.

Core invested in GoalSpring Financial, an online personal debt management company. Its DebtGoal is a free, online tool to help consumers negotiate lower interest rates on their credit cards.

Arjan Schütte, the managing partner at Core Innovation Capital, which has a strategic partnership with the Center for Financial Services Innovation, said: "Unlike many companies offering debt settlement solutions, GoalSpring recognizes that most people want to pay off their debt and protect their credit score."

Goldman Sachs made an anchor investment in the $30m Core Innovation Capital I fund, although the firm has made eight prior investments through the CFSI Catalyst Fund.
