Corporate venturing deal net: 7 – 11 August 2017

Jetsmarter, the US-based private flight subscription service backed by private aviation company JetEdge, raised an undisclosed amount from investment firm Clearlake Capital Group and investment holding company Leucadia National Corporation yesterday. The company had previously received $157m in funding, including $105m in a December 2016 series C round featuring JetEdge, KZ Capital, private investor Shawn Carter and undisclosed Middle Eastern equity funds and individual investors.

Direct selling company Vorwerk and energy utility Eneco have each invested an undisclosed amount to take 6.5% stakes in Germany-based digital heating system installer Thermondo, with existing backers Holtzbrinck Ventures and Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) also providing cash, Gründerszene reported yesterday. Thermondo had previously raised more than $32m from energy utility E.ON, Holtzbrinck Ventures, IBB, Global Founders Capital and Picus Capital.

Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, a corporate venturing subsidiary of media group Bertelsmann, and talent agency United Talent Agency have invested $4m in US-based, parenting-focused online media platform Fatherly, Fortune reported on Monday. Fatherly had previously raised $2m in seed capital in 2015 from SoftTech. Lerer Ventures, Crosslink Capital and angel investors including Gary Vaynerchuk.

Diversified technology manufacturer Körber has provided an undisclosed amount of funding for Germany-based 3D printer producer BigRep as part of a series B round that already included Kloeckner.v, the corporate venturing arm of steel producer Klöckner & Co, which invested in April this year. The investment follows a $7.5m series A round co-led by paper provider Koehler Paper Group and VC firm B-to-V Partners in late 2015.

Streetlight Data, a US-based travel behaviour analysis technology provider backed by energy utility Engie and telecommunications firm Deutsche Telekom, has secured $2.4m in equity funding, according to a securities filing on Tuesday. The company had previously raised $13.2m in financing from investors including corporate venturing units Engie New Ventures and Deutsche Telekom Strategic Investments, as well as VC firms Osage University Partners and Vision Ridge Capital Partners across three rounds.

US-based beauty e-commerce brand Winky Lux has secured $2m in a seed round that included BBG Ventures, the female founder-focused corporate venturing fund formed by online media company AOL. The round was led by venture capital fund Female Founders Fund and included GGV Capital, SoGal Ventures and TGZ Capital.

IT technology provider Garant has invested RUB110m ($1.8m) in Optogard Nanotech, a Russia-based developer of laser plasma technology that can make the surfaces of metals and alloys stronger. The funding was provided as part of a strategic partnership that will involve Garant and Optogard collaborating on the establishment of a production line and the launch of a pilot version of the technology.

Indonesia-based recruitment software developer Urbanhire has raised an undisclosed amount in a pre-series A round featuring beverage producer Intrafood Group, Tech in Asia reported yesterday. VC firm Convergence Ventures led the round, which included Social Capital, 500 Startups, Tortola Capital and Denali Capital, and which followed an undisclosed amount of seed capital from RMKB Ventures and various angel investors in March 2016.

CoPower, the Canada-based operator of a crowdfunding platform for renewable energy projects, has received C$2m ($1.6m) in funding from investors including financial services firm Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). The round was led by Fondaction CSN and included Innovation Support, Ferst Capital Partners and angel investor Laurie Thomson, and came after CoPower had raised $850,000 in a 2015 seed round co-led by RBC and Innovation Support.

Germany-based artificially intelligent customer service tool developer E-bot7 has secured a high six-digit euro amount (€100,000 = $118,000) in a seed round led by Main Incubator, an early-stage investment vehicle for financial services firm Commerzbank Startups-EU reported yesterday. The round included Wayra, an incubator subsidiary of telecom company Telefónica in which the startup participated in 2016, as well as undisclosed angel investors.

Senior-focused property developer Auriens has invested £500,000 ($650,000) in Cera, a UK-based provider of homecare services for the elderly, as part of a collaboration agreement that also includes senior care provider Draycott Nursing. Cera had previously received £2.7m across two rounds from VC firm Credo Ventures, business angel fund Kima Ventures and assorted angel investors.

Mobile game publisher Nazara Games has provided an undisclosed amount of funding for India-based game studio Moong Labs, the Economic Times reported yesterday. Moong concentrates on cricket-themed games for mobile devices, and will use the funding to develop additional games while also strengthening its core game engine.

FindYourSpace, a Thailand-based online realtor platform developer backed by web and app developer 7Peaks Software, has raised $300,000 in funding from business builder Reapra, it revealed on Monday. The company had previously received $30,000 from investors including 7Peaks Software when it launched in 2015, according to Tech in Asia, and will now seek to expand in Southeast Asia.
