Corporates help coat Actnano with $12m

Actnano, a US-based developer of protective nanocoating, raised $12m on Tuesday in a series A round featuring petrochemical producer PTT Global Chemical, oil refiner Hellas and industrial and consumer product conglomerate Henkel.

The corporates invested through GC Ventures America, Ireon Ventures and Henkel Adhesive Technologies respectively. They joined investment firm Emerald Technology Ventures, which led the round, and venture capital firm Material Impact.

Founded in 2012, Actnano is the creator of a resistant coating technology known as Advanced nanoGuard, which has been developed to protect electronics from water and environmental damage.

Paolo Bavaj, head of corporate venturing at Henkel Adhesive Technologies, said: “Functional coatings are a major focus topic for our adhesive technologies business.

“We are excited to work with Actnano, [which] has developed a conformal coating technology that protects entire printed circuit board systems, responding to the fast-growing demands especially in automotive electronics and consumer electronics.”
