Corporates make Nreal series A investment

China-based smart eye ware developer Nreal has received series A funding from investors including industrial robot developer Siasun and video streaming platform iQiyi to increase its total funding to $15m.

The round, the size of which was not disclosed by the company, also featured venture capital firms China Growth Capital, Shunwei Capital and APlus.

Founded in 2017, Nreal designs lightweight augmented reality glasses (pictured) that have sensors, cameras and video monitors built into the lenses and frames.

The glasses are available in different colours and support interchangeable prescription lenses. They can also play content from USB-C compatible devices such as laptops and desktops.

Zhang Hang, senior director at iQiyi, said: “We were greatly excited when we saw the mixed reality glasses developed by Nreal, which strike the right balance between convenient size and user experience, and have strong market potential, which is why we decided to partner with Nreal for future content offerings.”

Shunwei Capital and APlus had joined Siasun’s corporate venturing arm, Siasun Ventures, to supply an undisclosed amount of seed funding for Nreal in November 2017, according to China Money Network.
