Couchbase, a US-based database technology provider backed by telecommuniations company NTT Docomo, has raised $30m in a series F round led by private equity firm Sorenson Capital.
The round also featured Accel Partners, Adams Street Partners, Ignition Partners, Mayfield Fund, North Bridge Venture Partners and West Summit.
Couchbase has developed an open-source database for large-scale web, mobile and internet-of-things applications. Its clients include professional networking platform LinkedIn, payments processing service PayPal and security software developer Symantec.
The company will use the funding to accelerate its sales efforts, boost technical support and expand its engineering team. Couchbase, which has raised $145m to date, expects the series F to make it profitable, and to be its final round before an initial public offering.
NTT Docomo participated in a $60m series E round in 2014 through its corporate venturing division, Docomo Capital. The series E round was led by West Summit and Accel Growth Fund and featured Adams Street Ignition, North Bridge and Accel Partners, through a separate fund.
Docomo Capital also contributed to a $15m series C round in 2011 that was also backed by Ignition, Accel, Mayfield and North Bridge.
